Daily Bible Reading Will Transforms Your Life
Why Daily Bible Reading Matters
Why is it important to do anything consistently on a daily basis? Most of the time you do something regularly in order to achieve a goal or develop a skill.
Daily Bible reading is really no different. Developing our beliefs in the Christian life requires consistently meeting with God and spending time with Him in his word.
What in the world does that mean? Christians use the strangest phrases.
The bible is the whole of authoritative Christian texts brought together over many centuries into one volume. Studying how the bible came together is quite a task, but the fact of the matter is that the bible itself affirms itself as authoritative and good for our encouragement and growth.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says this
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness…”
This passage alone should give us pause to consider the powerful impact the scripture could have on our lives.
It’s God-breathed. In other words it’s ultimately inspired and organized by God. This process is describe by theologians as, “verbal plenary inspiration.”
Second Peter has a good example of this.
2 Peter 1:21 says
“For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
Man, that should not led us to doubt but to be in awe of God’s work even through broken vessels such as man.
Think of 2 Corinthians 4:7
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.”
Our Mind Learns In Funny Ways
One of the things I remember the most about first meeting my wife was how she described her experience of watching a movie. She works it over and over again in her mind for days… weeks even, and it affects her. That was one of the reasons we didn’t spend a lot of time watching movies when we first met.
Sadly, I had never thought that critically before about how a movie would affect me, but once I took notice of this, I realized all the movies that I had watched and how they impacted my views and thoughts slowly over time.
Even to this day, the childhood movie songs I watched are lodged in my mind on repeat and even come to mind and the slightest mention of a similar phrase.
Now consider this for yourself. What sort of things do you listen to or ingest on a daily basis that have an affect on your thoughts.
Bring that to the importance of ingesting the word of God on a daily basis and multiply that over your life.
Are you getting the picture yet?
You Need To Put In The Reps
Spending quality time every day in the word of God can radically changer your life because that sort of repeat in your heart and mind will transform your thinking daily.
We are talking about replacing those silly movies with thoughts and feelings from God. So take stock of your capacity to replace entertainment with the very heartbeat of God for your life every day.
He literally wrote history in a book for us to grow and learn about Him and delight in His love for us. He is working it all together for your good.
Let it take shape in your heart and let his voice whisper His joys over you every day and you’ll see your heart transform for the better.
One tip I have is to search your heart for any shame or guilt you might feel when it comes to reading God’s word.
Shame and guilt are from the enemy and are his schemes to keep you from the beautiful life you could live walking with the Father as you were intended.
Don’t let religious expectations or a check list keep you from the joys of the journey of discovering His heart for you.
Take a moment and breathe that truth in and know that you have a Father who will meet you with love right where you are. He is longing for you to see Him for the tender and gentle Father that he is.
God bless and I hope no matter where you are in your journey you will sit with the Lord today.

Spiritual Warfare: How to Protect Your Mind
Why is our mind like a battleground? Not only are we faced with our own intruding thoughts but also the influence of the world around us and the spiritual forces at work in the unseen spiritual realm.
The bible teaches us that we are targets for spiritual attack and we must train ourselves and be prepared for facing the lies of the devil. Scripture makes it plain that he roams the earth looking for someone to devour.
So we are encourage to be sober-minded, and watchful.
1 Peter 5:8: “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
So, what does it mean to be “sober-minded” and “watchful?”
Well, I think it means a few things.
First, we have to be intentional with our thought life. One of the biggest lies we can let creep in is that we cannot control our minds or our thoughts. This half truth is a scheme of the devil that so often keeps us from living the courageous life we are called to.
We are in fact going to be held responsible for our lives at the end of time before the great white throne. It’s this responsibility that we must take seriously given that we will be held accountable one day in the future.
So what do we do?
First, we prepare our minds with the truth and we fill our minds with the truth.
Consider 2 Corinthians 10:3-5:
“For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.”
and don’t forget about Ephesians 6:12:
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
We cannot sleep walk into the battle that we are faced with every day.
Are you weary? Tired of the attacks? Jesus offers you refuge. Don’t forget that he called you to lay your burden down before Him and to take up His yoke.
Second, replace the thoughts no matter how numerous they are with what is right and pure. This gets a lot of clients. If we are not self-aware or mindful of our thought life, we struggle to see what is taking place within us. So, consider journalling your thoughts out as much as possible and take stock of those thoughts. Talk them through with a coach or mentor and unpack the themes and rhythms you are consistently facing.
Obsessing over your thought life and your “inability” to change things is not the goal here. Too often, if we are not careful, we can let a victim mentality creep in and it too can become a strong hold for the devil.
Don’t discount Ephesians 6 and the illustration we see regarding being equipped for battle by wearing the whole armor of God.
Consider Ephesians 6:13:
“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”
This chapter is excellent for illustrating the effort and the intentional acts of equipping ourselves for battle with the tools in which God has given us.
All of this requires a deliberate sober-mindedness, and intentional watchfulness.
Have you let yourself drift? How mindful and intentional have you been in your spiritual life? Have you considered what you dwell on any given day?
Consider Philippians 4:8-9
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned[e] and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
The peace of God will be with you…
Wow, it’s time to tap into that. Take the steps you need to rearrange your thought life and invite the holy spirit in to transform what you dwell on. Feel weak? Offer it up to Him. Need help surrendering? Cry out to Him! He will meet you where you are!

Start Your Day with God: A Simple Morning Routine
Do you identify as a night owl or a morning person?
For the longest time I identified as a night owl and that was by far one of my biggest mistakes. Because of the power of thoughts and words you can unnecessarily languish over your mornings.
Making a plan and developing a routine will make a huge difference in developing your discipline and transforming how you tackle your days
Which brings me to my first point about developing a morning routine in general.
It all starts the night before.
Where it all begins.
The mindset of ending your day and starting your next day go hand in hand.
Think about the sort of mindset and preparation you do the night before your new day. If you are staying up until exhaustion doing mindless things that do not fuel your imagination or your hopes for your future. You will go to sleep with these mindless and unintentional thoughts preparing you for a poor start in the morning. It’s not as if those late night routines and habits disappear overnight. They linger just like that annoying tune or commercial jingle that you can’t get out of your head.
So, what I have tried to make a habit of doing is doing a small “mind dump” before I go to bed. Turn off the screen and write down what is lingering on your mind. I refer to a “mind dump” as writing whatever is on your mind to the page. It’s the act of getting it out of our heads and on to paper that helps us eliminate it’s presence in our minds.
Can’t think of anything? That’s okay! Consider adopting a journaling routine that includes the following framework.
Reflection:
- What went well today?
- What challenges did I face, and how did I handle them?
- How did I see God working in my life today?
Gratitude:
- List three things I’m thankful for from today.
- What was one small moment that brought me joy or peace?
Self-Improvement:
- What could I have done differently today?
- How can I show myself grace in areas where I struggled?
Looking Ahead:
- What are three priorities for tomorrow?
- How do I want to approach the day spiritually, emotionally, and physically?
- What is one thing I can do to make tomorrow a better day than today?
Now that you have some thoughts for the next day down. You want to make sure you have in place a good sleep ritual that prepares your mind and body for restful sleep. I’ll give you some ideas below, but consider writing them down for yourself and keep that routine posted on the wall to aid you as you adopt it for yourself.
First, Set out your clothes for your morning routine and prepare anything to save you time in executing your morning routine.
Dim the Lights (30-60 minutes before sleep):
Technology Shut-Down (Sleep Mode to limit distractions) (30-60 minutes before sleep)
Light stretching to release tension or partner massage (5 minutes)
Read Scripture (10-15 minutes):
Journaling and Surrender your day to the Lord (5-10 minutes)
Prayer or Affirmations (5 minutes):
Tips for your Environment: Ensure your room is cool, dark, and quiet. Consider using white noise, a sound machine, or a calming essential oil like lavender to enhance relaxation.
Additional Food for Thought before Bed
You might want to include things such as brush your teeth, wash your face, shower. Anything that helps you keep this time structured for a season and for your body and nervous system to adapt to the change. Whatever you do, stick with it for at least 40 days. Consistency is key to retraining your body and mind for a new routine.
Now that you have prepared yourself the night before, you can tackle your morning routine with confidence. Waking up and then getting out of the bed is less challenging with this already done.
One additional benefit of having a night time routine is understanding how much time you need to get to bed and to get the rest you need. Now, everyone is different and I recommend that as you progressively adapt to your new routine to experiment with what your body needs to feel rested.
There are a lot of factors that can go into this. So be sure to also keep in mind that not consuming caffeine in the evenings and not eating a late dinner can also impact your ability to get the sleep you need in addition to any other health related factors. Generally, most individuals need anywhere between 6-8 hours of sleep for your body to go through enough REM cycles to feel rested.
When We Wake
Now below is a suggested morning routine. This might be a good starting point and adapt as you need to for your own goals. Keep in mind that this is a progressive change. It’s hard to implement so many things “cold turkey” So, be gracious to yourself as you make changes and adapt your life to this plan.
Wake Up Early (Suggested: 5:30-6:00 AM):
- Start your day early to have plenty of time for each goal you have for your morning without rushing.
- Begin with a glass of water to hydrate your body after sleep. Hold off on the coffee.
Prayer & Meditation (10-15 minutes):
- Start your day with a prayer of, gratitude, worship, and guidance for the day.
Scripture Reading & Devotion (15-20 minutes):
- Open a pre selected scripture reading plan or devotion and spend time reading and reflecting on it.
- This doesn’t need to be deep bible study. Just time with the Lord in reflection of the scriptural truths you read in less than 20 minutes.
Exercise (60 minutes):
- Move your body. I think this is particularly important. Almost like making it a habit to make your bed. You need the fuel of “easy” wins to start your day. Use a simple gym split of compound movements or do a mix of cardio and calisthenics in your home.
- Morning exercise helps boost energy, focus, and productivity for the rest of the day.
Cool Down & Stretch (5-10 minutes):
- Don’t forget to stretch! Cool-down and relax your muscles to reduce stiffness.
Shower & Get Ready (15-20 minutes):
- Refresh yourself with a shower and get dressed for the day.
Hardy Breakfast (20 minutes):
- Prepare and eat a nutritious, hearty breakfast with a good balance of protein, fiber, and healthy fats (e.g., eggs, sausage, avocado toast).
- Try not to cram it down. Take your time to eat mindfully.
Business Planning & Priority Tasks (30-45 minutes):
- Set aside time to focus on your business ventures or side hustle.
- Begin by reviewing your goals, then tackle one or two key tasks for the day. This might include planning content, responding to emails, or reviewing marketing strategies.
- Ensure you’re working on high-priority tasks that align with your long-term goals.
Review & Set Intentions for the Day (5-10 minutes):
- Reflect on your day’s goals and priorities, adjusting if needed.
- Take a moment to ask God for guidance and strength for the day ahead.
Now, that is pretty extensive and I have to say I have really tried to make adaptations to this plan for myself and it has taken a long time to implement in a season of young kids, sleepless nights, and busy schedules. The night before is crucial to your success. Be gracious to yourself and be compassionate toward others who might not be on the same page with your routine. Keep in mind that they are also not up to speed to your personal goals.
Whatever you do trust the Lord in it and give it to him.
